Sandvik Hackathon 2025: Innovating with AI to simplify manufacturing

Global teams unite to develop AI-driven solutions for easier, smarter manufacturing.

On October 8, Sandvik will host a first-of-its-kind Intelligent Manufacturing Hackathon across 6 global tech centers. Around 200 of our software engineers and experts will spend a day building prototypes that use AI to make our manufacturing software more intuitive and efficient for users.

According to our recent study, 80% of component manufacturers want increased automation, while 44% struggle to access technical expertise when facing urgent issues. The focus on the hackathon is therefore on building AI-powered features or apps that make users of our software more efficient by addressing critical efficiency obstacles such as complex interfaces, siloed systems, and manual processes.

Focus during the hackathon

Simpler user experience: Projects that guide users in real time and reduce learning curves (think AI assistants within our software).

Automation of tedious tasks: Ideas to automate routine programming or inspection tasks, freeing up your time for more valuable work.

Seamless integration: Solutions that connect our CAD/CAM, tool management, and quality systems more tightly, so data flows without manual steps.

”This hackathon will help us accelerating innovation and staying close to what truly matters: our customers. By investing in new ideas, we’re shaping the future of manufacturing – together.”

says Magnus Malmström, Chief Technology Officer for Intelligent Manufacturing at Sandvik.

The participants in the hackathon are being randomly grouped by geographical location. The teams have already began brainstorming ideas. On event day, they collaborate to create a working demo, which is recorded and submitted for judging. The award ceremony will be held on Oct 10 with a jury consisting of specialists from our brands together with representatives from both resellers and partners.

Stay tuned! We’ll share the most exciting hackathon innovations and how they could benefit you – check back after Oct 10 for results and stories.

Why this matters

By bringing together our experts from CAD, CAM, simulation, and metrology, we leverage the breadth of Sandvik’s digital manufacturing portfolio. This collaborative approach means hackathon solutions can seamlessly bridge different parts of the manufacturing process – a benefit only a company with Sandvik’s end-to-end offering can deliver.

We’ve got 80+ years of manufacturing know-how fueling our digital innovations – expect practical solutions, not just tech for tech’s sake.
